What are the things that the Isle of Wight Children and Young People’s Trust will focus on?

In the last six months the ‘shadow’ Isle of Wight Children and Young People’s Trust Board has been focussed on:

  • Supporting our Director of Children’s Services and Cabinet Member to ensure the better co-ordination of services for children and young people
  • A clear vision and objectives (what we will do to raise outcomes and how we will achieve this)
  • A co-ordinated assessment of need (how we all agree what we need to do)
  • The development of the Isle of Wight Children and Young People’s Plan by April 2006 (the overarching plan for the Island)
  • The development of the Isle of Wight Local Safeguarding Children’s Board by April 2006 (to ensure we are all doing our best to keep children and young people safe and to promote their welfare)
  • Putting budgets (money) closer together across some or all services
  • Workforce planning across services (making sure we have people with the right skills in the right place)
  • Effective information sharing systems (so people only need to have one set of questions asked before they get the support they need)
  • Developing new forms of joined up services, such as multi-disciplinary (people trained to do different specific jobs) in teams based around local communities.
After including the views of over 8,000 children and young people, looking at the evidence and talking to many services the Isle of Wight Children and Young People’s Trust will focus on

  • Raise educational achievement
  • Improve mental health and well-being (by reducing bullying, alcohol and substance misuse)
  • Increase support and employability for those aged 14 to 19
  • Help more of children and young people to get involved in things to do in their communities
  • Develop more support for parents, carers and families
The Isle of Wight Children and Young People’s Plan will explain why we have chosen these and what we will do together to achieve them.
