| ![]() |
| A small but significant proportion of the Isle of Wight bus network is supported by the Council. Many evening and Sunday services, including some connecting the Island’s principal towns, depend on this support or they would not be provided at all. Similarly many deep rural services, such as those serving Alverstone, Bonchurch, Gurnard, Havenstreet, Porchfield and Newtown, only exist through this continuing support. Operators Southern Vectis and Wightbus currently operate services on the Council’s behalf. Extensive consultation with bodies such as the Parish and Town Councils, the Isle of Wight Bus Users Group, the Quality Transport Partnership together with the views of the bus operators and of individual passengers inform our decisions on network planning. Administration of the national concessionary fares scheme, which provides eligible persons with free off-peak travel on local buses anywhere in England, is undertaken by the section. | |
| For further information about the scheme visit www.direct.gov.uk/buspass. ![]() | We also have an increasing involvement in the preparation, updating and distribution of public transport information. This includes responsibility for maintaining and updating Isle of Wight bus information on the national website www.traveline.info and production of the Council’s Public Transport Handbook. For a downloadable version of the latest Public Transport Handbook, valid from 20th December 2009 – Bus services contained in this booklet will remain valid until the 17th April 2010 and a new Handbook with revised services will be available from the 18th April. click here for the cover and introduction; here for local area maps; and here for timetable information Wightbus only information, is available here If you wish to contact us then please call (01983) 823780. | |
