Isle of Pink

In support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Isle of Wight is turning pink throughout October.

Isle of Pink logoWorking in partnership with Breast Cancer Campaign, the Isle of Wight council is encouraging its staff, schools, local businesses and tourist attractions across the Island to get behind the pink campaign and host pink-themed days and activities in support of the breast cancer charity. To reinforce its support, it has even turned its logo pink!

Other activities being organised on the Isle of Pink include a ‘Friendship Walk’, taking place as part of the council’s tenth anniversary walking festival weekend on the 25th October.

Wear it Pink DayFriday 31st October sees 'Wear it Pink Day' where it is hoped people all over the Isle of Pink will pledge their support to the charity by wearing an item of pink clothing. Council employees are being encouraged to wear pink to work and make a donation to Breast Cancer Campaign.

Ferry company Wightlink is getting involved too. Its flagship, St Clare, will sport a pink ribbon for wear it pink day on the 31st October, and throughout October the ferry will be used as a floating exhibition to promote the Isle of Pink campaign.

Cllr Dawn Cousins, Isle of Wight Council cabinet member for health, housing and community wellbeing said: "The council is extremely happy to support the Isle of Pink campaign and is looking forward to getting involved in a number of pink events. With schools, visitor attractions and local businesses getting involved I am sure the Isle of Breast Cancer Campaign logoPink campaign will be hugely successful in raising funds for valuable research into both the cause and treatment of breast cancer."

Lauren Basket, Breast Cancer Campaign Community Development Manager said: "There is a strong community spirit on the Isle of Wight, and thanks to the support we’ve received from local businesses and attractions, we’re sure the Isle of Pink is going to be a complete success."

All monies raised from turning the Isle of Wight pink will help the charity to continue funding vital breast cancer research. For information on how to take part in an Isle of Pink event or how to organise your own call 020 7749 3708 or click on the Quick Link below.
