Work to install a local community multi-sports zone in the shape of the London 2012 Olympics logo has begun in Sandown.
The adiZone features a range of sporting equipment - all free to use by the community - including a climbing wall, dance area, outdoor gym, basketball hoops and a football goal.
The facility, which is located at Sandham Gardens in Sandown, will be open all year round and can be used by all ages.
The adiZone has been paid for through funding by Adidas, the Small Rural Towns Project and IW Council Safer Communities Partnership and it will become the 50th adiZone to be built in the country.
It is scheduled to be opened to the public by mid-August.
IW Council cabinet member responsible for leisure, George Brown, said "This will be an excellent community facility that anyone of any ages can enjoy. It will also be a very important resource for local schools and sports clubs who will no doubt use this for training and physical activity purposes.
"I am very pleased so many organisations worked together to achieve this facility, which will also be ready in the year leading up to the NatWest Island Games which we are honoured to be hosting.
"It's also good to see that the Island is already benefitting from Britain hosting the Olympic Games"
The adiZone project is also supported by the Island's NHS, Hampshire Constabulary and Sandown Town Council.
Cllr Jacquie Mereweather, Mayor of Sandown, said "The town council is delighted with this wonderful new facility in Sandown offering a whole range of healthy activities for all ages.
"This, together with our other facilities at Sandham Grounds, has been achieved by Sandown Town Council working in partnership with the Isle of Wight Council and Sandown Community Partnership. Sandown Town Council will be working with the Isle of Wight Council in managing this facility for the town"
