Press Release

STATE OF THE ART WHEELCHAIRS OPEN UP NEW ACTIVITY OPTIONS Date Published: 20/07/2010 Expires: 20/08/2010

This Press Release has expired.

Young people who rely on wheelchairs everyday can now enjoy activities they may not have had access to before thanks to a revolutionary new piece of equipment.

Under the 'Aiming High for Disabled Children' scheme, Isle of Wight Council has bought three new 'Landeez' Wheelchairs which will be made available for use by children and young people with disabilities.

The Landeez chairs are all-terrain, meaning they can access areas conventional wheelchairs may not, such as beaches or forests.

The wheelchairs are built using a stainless steel frame, anti-absorbent seating, all-terrain wheels and inter-changeable pads which can be used by both children and adults.

The Landeez wheelchairs will be made available for school trips and group outings and can be hired for a nominal fee.

Dawn Cousins, IW Council Cabinet member for children said "It is very pleasing that the council has acquired these excellent new all terrain wheelchairs. It will open up many activities to disabled people which, in the past, they may not have had access to, and it is fantastic to be able to do that"

Further details regarding the Landeez Wheelchair can be sought in the first instance by contacting Moira Henderson on (01983) 533523 or moira.henderson@iow.gov.uk
