QUESTION CRIMESenior representatives from major Isle of Wight organisations faced the public in a live 'Question Time' style event on the 26 February 2009, where issues of crime and disorder were the main topics of debate.
'Question Crime', which was held at Newport's Medina Theatre, brought together Isle of Wight Council, Hampshire Constabulary, the NHS, Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue and the Rural Community Council. It was organised by the Isle of Wight Crime and Disorder Reduction Partnership (CDRP), of which all the organisations are members.
The panel was made up of Steve Beynon (IW Council Chief Executive), Cllr. David Pugh (IW Council Leader), Chief Superintendent Dave Thomas (IW Police), Dr. Jennifer Smith (Director of Public Health), Stuart Love (IW Council Director of Environment and Neighbourhoods), Stuart May (Assistant Chief Fire Officer) and Mike Bulpitt (Chief Executive of IW Rural Community Council).
The audience were able to ask the panel live about any issue relating to crime on the Isle of Wight and the fear of crime. In a similar format to the BBC programme 'Question Time', giant TV screens were set-up on stage showing close-ups of the panel and audience. The event was chaired by IOW radio programme controller Paul Topping and was broadcast live on local radio station.
Questions that featured during the evening will be posted to this website shortly.
