Parish and Town Council Vacancies

Details of all known Parish and Town Council Vacancies will be posted here as and when the Proper Officer is notified of them. Updates to original postings will be added below the original post, and details will be removed after six months.

Godshill Parish Council:

31 December 2019: The one remaining vacancy on Godshill Parish Council will be filled by means of a by-election. Nominations open on Thursday 2 January 2020 and close at 4:00pm on Friday 10th January 2020. Nomination papers are available from the Clerk to the Parish Council or from the Returning Officer, see contact details.

13 January 2020: The by-election for Godshill Parish Council is contested, and the poll was taken on Thursday 6 February 2020.

Ryde Town Council:

22 January 2020: Two vacancies have occurred on Ryde Town Council; one in Ryde North-West ward, and the other in Ryde West ward. The last date for ten local government electors for the Ward in question to give Notice in writing that they wish the vacancy in their ward to be filled by means of an election is Tuesday 11th February 2020. If the required number of requests are not received then the Town Council will proceed to fill the vacancies by means of co-option. Please note that separate sets of requests are required from both of the wards in question.

10 March 2020: The Proper Officer has received the required number of requests for the following vacancies to be filled by means of by-elections: Ryde Town Council – Ryde West ward : 1 seat and Ryde Town Council – Ryde North West ward : 1 seat Nominations open on Tuesday 10th March and close at 4:00pm on Wednesday 18th March 2020.

24 April 2020: Under the provisions of the Coronavirus Act 2020 and The Local Government and Police and Crime Commissioner (Coronavirus)(Postponement of Elections and Referendums)(England and Wales) Regulations 2020 the scheduled by-elections will not take place, and the vacancies will be held open until they are filled at the Ordinary Election of Councillors due to be held on Thursday 6th May 2021

Shanklin Town Council:

13 January 2020: A vacancy has occurred in the Central Ward of Shanklin Town Council. The last date for ten local government electors for the Ward to give Notice in writing that they wish the vacancy to be filled by means of an election is Friday 31 January 2020. If the required number of requests are not received then the Town Council will proceed to fill the vacancy by means of co-option.

17 February 2020: The Proper Officer has received the required number of requests for the vacancy in the Central Ward of Shanklin Town Council to be filled by means of a by-election. Nominations open on Thursday 27th February and close at 4:00pm on Friday 6th March 2020. Nomination papers are available from the Clerk to the Town Council or from Electoral Services via : electoral.services@iow.gov.uk

24 April 2020: Under the provisions of the Coronavirus Act 2020 and The Local Government and Police and Crime Commissioner (Coronavirus)(Postponement of Elections and Referendums)(England and Wales) Regulations 2020 the scheduled by-election will not take place, and the vacancy will be held open until it is filled at the Ordinary Election of Councillors due to be held on Thursday 6th May 2021

Lake Parish Council:

13 February 2020: A vacancy has occurred in the Lake South Ward of Lake Parish Council. The last date for ten local government electors for the Ward to give Notice in writing that they wish the vacancy to be filled by means of an election is Wednesday 4th March 2020. If the required number of requests are not received then the Parish Council will proceed to fill the vacancy by means of co-option.

24 April 2020: Under the provisions of the Coronavirus Act 2020 and The Local Government and Police and Crime Commissioner (Coronavirus)(Postponement of Elections and Referendums)(England and Wales) Regulations 2020 the by-election will not take place, and the vacancy will be held open until it is filled at the Ordinary Election of Councillors due to be held on Thursday 6th May 2021

Gurnard Parish Council:

28 February 2020: A vacancy has occurred on Gurnard Parish Council. The last date for ten local government electors for the Parish to give Notice in writing that they wish the vacancy to be filled by means of an election is Thursday 19th March 2020. If the required number of requests are not received then the Parish Council will proceed to fill the vacancy by means of co-option.

25 March 2020: The Proper Officer did not receive the required number of requests for a by-election, and so the vacancy will be filled by means of co-option

Nettlestone and Seaview Parish Council:

24 April 2020: A vacancy has occurred on Nettlestone and Seaview Parish Council. The last date for ten local government electors for the Parish to give Notice in writing that they wish the vacancy to be filled by means of an election* is Friday 15th May 2020. If the required number of requests are not received then the Parish Council will proceed to fill the vacancy by means of co-option.

18 May 2020: * The Proper Officer received the required number of requests required for this vacancy to be ordinarily filled by means of a by-election. However, under the provisions of the Coronavirus Act 2020 and The Local Government and Police and Crime Commissioner (Coronavirus)(Postponement of Elections and Referendums)(England and Wales) Regulations 2020 the election will not take place, and the vacancy will be held open until it is filled at the Ordinary Election of Councillors due to be held on Thursday 6th May 2021.

20 May 2020: A further vacancy has occurred on Nettlestone and Seaview Parish Council. The last date for ten local government electors for the Parish to give Notice in writing that they wish the vacancy to be filled by means of an election* is Wednesday 10th June 2020. If the required number of requests are not received then the Parish Council will proceed to fill the vacancy by means of co-option.

Niton and Whitwell Parish Council

28 April 2020 : A vacancy has occurred in the Niton Ward of Niton and Whitwell Parish Council. The last date for ten local government electors for the Ward to give Notice in writing that they wish the vacancy to be filled by means of an election* is Tuesday 19th May 2020. If the required number of requests are not received then the Parish Council will proceed to fill the vacancy by means of co-option.

26 May 2020: The Proper Officer did not receive the required number of requests for a by-election, and so the vacancy will be filled by means of co-option

Fishbourne Parish Council

18 May 2020: A vacancy has occurred on Fishbourne Parish Council. The last date for ten local government electors for the Parish to give Notice in writing that they wish the vacancy to be filled by means of an election* is Monday 8th June 2020. If the required number of requests are not received then the Parish Council will proceed to fill the vacancy by means of co-option.

9 June 2020: The Proper Officer did not receive the required number of requests for a by-election, and so the vacancy noted above will be filled by means of co-option.

13 July 2020: A further vacancy has occurred on Fishbourne Parish Council. The last date for ten local government electors for the Parish to give Notice in writing that they wish the vacancy to be filled by means of an election* is Friday 31st July 2020. If the required number of requests are not received then the Parish Council will proceed to fill the vacancy by means of co-option.

22 June 2020: A vacancy has occurred in the Carisbrooke Ward of Newport and Carisbrooke Community Council. The last date for ten local government electors for the Ward to give Notice in writing that they wish the vacancy to be filled by means of an election* is Friday 10th July 2020. If the required number of requests are not received then the Community Council will proceed to fill the vacancy by means of co-option.

07 July 2020: A vacancy has occurred on Wroxall Parish Council. The last date for ten local government electors for the Parish to give Notice in writing that they wish the vacancy to be filled by means of an election* is Monday 27th July 2020. If the required number of requests are not received then the Parish Council will proceed to fill the vacancy by means of co-option.
