Veterans Outreach Support
Founded in July 2008 after a Falklands pilgrimage, Veterans Outreach Support (VOS) began as an informal volunteer support group based in Portsmouth. The founding members, themselves Falklands veterans and family members, wanted to create a welcoming place where Service veterans could meet up and access a range of support services. Now a registered charity, VOS has grown in expertise, capability and capacity and is funded by a number of generous national military charities to deliver its invaluable service to veterans and their families.
In a bid to improve and extend its services, VOS is delighted to announce that they will launch a Drop-In for Veterans at the Riverside Centre, in Newport on the Isle of Wight. A grant from the Armed Forces Covenant Fund has enabled it to set up a monthly Drop In for veterans; a friendly and informal environment where personnel from all services including the Merchant Navy and their immediate families and get on-the-spot general welfare, wellbeing and mental health support.
Jon Watson, VOS CEO said “We are delighted to be able to extend our reach across the Solent and look forward to establishing a VOS Drop-In on the Isle of Wight. We find that welfare, well-being and mental health are inextricably linked and are therefore best addressed together. Veterans who come to see us will find a warm welcome, a cup of tea or coffee and on-the-spot access to a wide range of welfare, wellbeing and mental health support”.
The VOS Clinical Team includes mental health professionals with a wealth of experience of working with ex-service personnel. All VOS’s services are free to service users.
The first VOS Drop-In takes place on Wednesday 16 May 2018 (and thereafter third Wednesday of every month) from 1200 to 5pm at the Riverside Centre, The Quay, Newport, Isle of Wight, PO30 2QR. Former members of all British Armed Forces and Reserves, the Royal Fleet Auxiliary and the Merchant Navy are all welcome.
