Prevent (Counter Terrorism)
Prevent is a national strategy. It aims to stop people from becoming violent extremists or supporting terrorism. Prevent forms part of the Government's CONTEST strategy. It says that authorities have a duty to prevent people from being drawn into terrorism.
The council has a Prevent Board which includes:
- Community Safety Partners
- Isle of Wight College
- Adult and Children's Safeguarding Leads
- other relevant partners
Channel forms part of the national Prevent strategy. It is a multi-agency approach to identify and provide support to individuals who are at risk of being drawn into terrorism. The council coordinates a panel which agencies can refer into if they have a concern about a person.
