2 hour Ranger led session at Fort Victoria Country Park

The session starts with a 30 minute handling session in the Fort’s corner room; pupils handle and learn about at seaweed, crabs, shellfish, geology and fossils at the Country Park.

Pupils can then enjoy a walk around the parks 22 hectares of woodland, learning about the wildlife and habitat at the Country Park which includes red squirrels, dormice and bats. Pupils will learn about how the Islands woodland is different to mainland woodland, as we have no deer on the Island and how being separated from the mainland has helped local wildlife.

Following on from the woodland walk, pupils enjoy a shoreline rummage on the beach. Pupils are asked to help the Rangers by finding different types of seaweed, shells and looking for crabs and sea anemones, as well as stones and fossils.

The tour is based upon Key Stage 1 and 2 in Science, with links to English and PSHE skills.

The cost of a 2 hour session in 2014 is £3.20 for Island Schools and £3.70 for Mainland Schools.
