The council is a member of the South East Waste Planning Advisory Group (SEWPAG). SEWPAG is the grouping of waste planning officers and advisors which exists to help waste planning authorities in the area to fulfil the Duty to Cooperate on strategic issues enshrined in the Localism Bill, and specifically to give effect to the Government’s stated intention to place the responsibilities of the former Regional Technical Advisory Bodies with local authority groupings to enable waste planning authorities to carry out their individual responsibilities more effectively. The minutes of the SEWPAG meetings can be found by clicking here.
A Waste Management Strategy is being prepared by the Waste Contract Procurement Team. The main elements to the strategy are the collection and treatment of waste and more information on this can be found by clicking here. The Draft Municipal Waste Strategy is due to go to public consultation in July 2013.
