Draft Island Planning Strategy Consultation

The Island Planning Strategy (IPS) is used to guide development on the island over the next 15 years. The plan is developed by ourselves in consultation with the local community. It will deal with future needs and opportunities in relation to:

  • Environment
  • Community
  • Growth
  • Housing
  • Economy
  • Transport

We have prepared a Draft Island Planning Strategy for public consultation and are seeking your views on the document.

The consultation runs from 9am Friday 30 July 2021 and closes at 5pm on Friday 1 October 2021.

The Draft IPS is also supported by a Policies Map and a Housing allocations map booklet.

We have also prepared a summary document that includes some of the key points.

We have also provided access to several background evidence documents.

Comment on the draft Island Planning Strategy

Comments can also be made using the comments form and emailing it to or in writing to:

We would ask that any comments being made clearly reference the section, paragraph or policy of the draft IPS that they relate to. Comments received after the closing date may not be processed. Anonymous comments will not be accepted.

Should you wish to purchase a copy of the draft IPS there will be a charge of £35 this can be obtained by calling 01983 823552. We will also be making large print copies of the plan available across the island's libraries.

The planning policy team will not be able to respond to the content of any comments made during the consultation period.

This consultation is being carried out under ‘Regulation 18’ of the Town and Country Planning (Local Planning) (England) regulations which set out the stages the IPS has to go through. Further guidance is given in the Local Plans section of the national planning practice guidance.
