Get a little extra help...

On the first Monday of the month, in Newport Library from 10:30 am to 11:30 am, get a little extra help using your tablet or smartphone, from the Halifax.

Alzheimer's Society Drop-In Stand

Held on the first Tuesday of the month from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, and available for people with any type of dementia, their carers or families, the Alzheimer's Society can signpost you to services in your local area.

January drop-in will be on the 8th January.

Over 60's Group

If you're over 60, interested in meeting new people, having a cup of tea and a good old chat? Come down to us every other Monday, 10:30 am to 12:00 noon, and don't forget there's the Health Walk on the Mondays we don't meet.  See noticeboard in Library for next dates.


Every Friday, from 10:00 am to 10:30 am and 11:00 am - 11:30 am, there is a Rhymetime for babies of all ages!  Come down, sing some rhymes, have fun and maybe make new friends too!

Story times & Craft Events for Children

We regularly invite local authors and storytellers into the Library, alongside running craft events.  Please see the Library noticeboard for more details.


A monthly book group for children in years 4, 5 and 6.  Come read the latest books, play games and make new friends.  Ask a member of staff for the date of the next meeting.


A monthly book group for children in years 7, 8 and 9.  Come chat about books, make new friends and meet local authors.  Ask a member of staff for the date of the next meeting.


On the first and third Tuesday of every month, 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm, the Library holds a free LEGO club for children aged 5+.  There's no need to book, so just turn up!  Squash will be provided.  All LEGO gratefully received!

Colouring Group

Every Thursday from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm.  £1 per person.  Colouring equipment, and refreshment provided.

Art Group

An untutored art group meets every Thursday from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon in Newport Library.  Just come down, and start painting.  Please use Orchard Street entrance.

Knit & Natter

Knit and natter is a regular knitting group held in the Lord Louis Library.
There is a free session on the first Wednesday, 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm, and third Thursday, 5:45 pm to 7:00 pm, of every month.
Bring along your latest project!

Tea, coffee and natter provided!!

Newport Library Poets Corner

Do you enjoy Poetry? 

Would you like to join a group with like minded individuals and perhaps learn more about the poets themselves?
Come along the first Wednesday of every month 10:00 am to 11:00 am, (subject to change).

Reading Groups

The Library reading groups meet once a month at the library, usually the first Thursday of the month. Please ask at the counter or telephone for further details.

The Read Vitalise reading group is a facilitated reading group for people with experience of depression, anxiety and other common mental health problems. They meet every second Thursday of the month at the Library.  Please ask at the Library for details.

Book Sale

Withdrawn library books and other stock are on sale, on the first Saturday of the month.  Come down and pick up a bargain!
