The County Music Collection
The Isle of Wight Music Library contains over 30,000 pieces of sheet music, all of which are available for loan. It was established in 1984 when Conductor Victor Fleming donated his collection of music and orchestral sets to Ventnor Library. Since then it has grown substantially due to further generous donations of music from the public, as well as island music societies.
Part of the collection was moved to Lord Louis Library in Newport, to provide greater access to the more popular material. If you can’t find the music you need, we also offer an interlibrary loan service and will try and obtain it from a mainland music library.
We have recently purchased a number of sets of popular choral works to improve the collection. To download a leaflet giving details of the new vocal scores, click here. We are hoping to develop a friends group for this important collection which we hope will improve accessibility to the collection even more.
We have recently introduced a new streaming music service for both classical and jazz music. You will just need your library card to access these free services. The classical music collection includes over 96,000 classical CDs with over 1.4 million tracks. The jazz music collection has over 8,000 jazz CDs to listen to - the equivalent of 92,000 tracks.
