Early Years Special Educational Needs Advisory Team
The Early Years Special Educational Needs Advisory Team are able to provide advice and information to early years settings, to give further information on how the setting might meet the needs of a child with a Special Educational Need or Disability (SEND).
Early Years SEN Advisors (Inclusion) will empower all Special Educational Needs Co-ordinators (SENCo) and staff working in childcare settings to develop an inclusive early learning environment and to help them support children.
The role of the SENCo is crucial for childcare settings in supporting early identification and intervention for children with special educational needs and will be a useful contact for you if you have any concerns about your child’s development. The SENCo’s responsibilities include:
- Co-ordinating a setting’s recording.
- Ensuring close working relationships with parents.
- Ensuring liaison with outside agencies with respect to a child’s additional needs.
- Helping to ensure smooth transitions for children.
