Adult Community Learning Programme – Summer 2021

We are looking forward to welcoming you back to enjoy our extensive range of workshops and courses throughout the summer term.   

When our centre reopens on the 12 April 2021, we will be operating smaller classes to allow for social distancing while continuing to adhere to current government guidelines.

All workshops and courses take place at the Community Learning Centre, Westridge Centre, Ryde, PO33 1QS, unless otherwise stated. 

Please note: where our course details show they are fully funded, this means that they are free and no charges will be made for attending the course. Courses that have a cost attached are clearly stated. Concession rates are offered to learners who are in receipt of specific benefits that are means tested.

Information Communication Technology (ICT)

Computers for Beginners – 6 weeks, fully funded and offered at no cost.

Cover the basics of a computer and getting online. Start with:

  • Starting up the computer, 
  • the keyboard, mouse, 
  • shutting down,
  • simple Word Processing,
  • accessing and using the internet, 
  • setting up and using email. 

Dates of course: Tuesday 20 April to 25 May

Dates of course: Thursday 10 June to 15 July

Time: 9.30am to 12.30pm.

 

European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) Spreadsheets, Level 1 and 2 - 6 weeks, fully funded and offered at no cost.

Get started on a spreadsheet:

  • Using formulas, 
  • create charts to display data,
  • use the chart formatting options. 

Dates of course: Thursday 22 April to 27 May 

Time: 9.30am to 12.30pm.

 

European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) Word Processing, Level 1 and 2 - 6 weeks, fully funded and offered at no cost.

Create a document from scratch using:

  • Formatting tools, 
  • add images,
  • use page layout options. 

At level 2 create letters with mail merge fields.

Dates of course: Monday 7 June to 12 July 

Time: 1pm to 4pm.

 

European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) Presentation Software, Level 1 and 2 - 6 weeks, fully funded and offered at no cost.

Learn how to:

  • Create a slideshow, 
  • draw objects and produce charts,
  • add special effects to a slideshow presentation. 

Dates of course: Friday 11 June to 16 July

Time: 9.30am to 12.30pm.

 

Essential Digital Skills for Work, Level 1 – 10 weeks, fully funded and offered at no cost.

Understand:

  • Online collaboration in the workplace, 
  • gaining the skills to use the internet to solve problems, 
  • create basic documents, presentations and spread sheets.

Dates of course: Monday 19 April to 5 July

Time: 9.30am to 12.30pm.

 

Essential Digital Skills for Life, Level E3 – 10 weeks, fully funded and offered at no cost.

Learn how to:

  • Resolve simple problems, 
  • create basic documents, 
  • stay safe and secure online,
  • organise information on different devices for everyday use.

Dates of course: Wednesday 21 April to 30 June

Time: 9.30am to 12.30pm.

Dates of course: Tuesday 27 April to 6 July

Time: 1pm to 4pm.

An opportunity to learn the basics of oil painting.

Learn to draw and sketch a wide variety of subject matters using various pencils, graphite sticks, fine line pens and charcoal.

Drawing to Oil Painting (4 weeks)
Learn how to transfer your sketches to create beautiful oil paintings.

Mend and make do by learning how to alter and repair a garment through a variety of techniques using both hand and machine sewing.

Explore the many ways of bleeding tissue paper to produce a piece of wall art, that looks like a watercolour.

Get Fruity with Beauty Workshop
Use a wide range of fresh fruit to create beauty products for the whole body.

Cost: £6 each session. Or two sessions for £10, morning and afternoon session for same person.

  • Funky T-Shirt Necklace - Have fun upcycling old t-shirts to create an attractive unique necklace/scarf.
  • Upcycled Wine Cork Charms - Create fun bottle stops and charms from corks, using beads, sea glass and jewellery trims.
  • Button Tree Art - Construct a button tree on canvas using acrylic paints and a variety of buttons. 
  • Expressive Drawing - Learn what expressive drawing is and explore it through a variety of tasks.

  • Zentangle Pattern - A wonderful calming experience to build and colour complex patterns onto an outlined shape.
  • Stunning Book Sculptures - Fold the pages of an old book to create stunning sculptures.
  • Decorative Bead Earrings - Make unique and original earrings using a variety of beads and embroidery threads.  
  • Land and Seascape Collage - Create a collage using various recycled materials and different mediums.

 

City and Guilds - Functional Skills Courses

English and Maths

New classes starting in September. If you would like to enrol, please contact us with your details.

 

  • Fully funded and offered at no cost.

  • From entry level 1 through to level 2 qualifications. 

  • Tutor support given throughout the course.

  • English has three modules; a reading exam, a writing exam and a speaking and listening assessment. You must pass all three to gain the qualification.

  • Maths has just one exam. 

  • Level 2 is equivalent to a pass grade 4 or 5 at GCSE.

  • Level 2 qualifications are widely recognisable and accepted by colleges and some universities.
