All Isle of Wight providers will use their best endeavours and adopt a similar approach to meeting the needs of pupils with Special Educational Needs. Schools are supported by the Local Authority to ensure that all pupils, regardless of their specific needs, make the best possible progress in school. All schools are supported to be as proactive and inclusive as possible. The needs of pupils with a Special Educational Need/s should be being met in a mainstream setting wherever possible, and where families want this to happen.
As part of this process all schools on the Island are completing an SEN information report. This provides their arrangements for:
- Admission of disabled children,
- the steps being taken to prevent disabled children being treated less favourably than others,
- the facilities provided to enable access to the school for disabled children,
- their accessibility plan showing how they plan to improve access progressively over time,

Referral Units / Tuition Centres
Working in conjunction with other professionals, Tuition Centres give support to children who, for a variety of reasons, are unable to attend school. The service aims to ensure that pupils return and re-integrate into school as soon as possible. In 2014, Clatterford Tuition Centre and Thompson House Tuition Centre moved sites and are now both located at The Island Learning Centre but their provision continues to remain separate.
