Report summary

Fun and Enjoyment – 3 stars

The Young Inspector was given a taster session of all the different aspects of the session that could be incorporated into the individual session. One of the Young Inspectors finds it difficult to join in group activities but was able to sit outside the pen and watch. On his feedback he said “I was made to feel included without pressure and I liked that.” The pony was then brought out to him and he was able to take part in the activities by himself whilst the others played a game together.

The sessions are tailored to the individual's needs and preferences. The Young Inspectors really enjoyed all the activities with the ponies in the pen from grooming to leading.

A visit in advance would usually take place prior to individual sessions to start to build up rapport and to get to know the young person and what they would like to do and get from the sessions. This allows for these sessions to be tailored for individual needs.

Sessions can be accommodated in most weathers as there is a sheltered area to use undercover too.

Accessibility – 3 stars

Clear instructions were provided to find the venue by car and young people arriving by bus are collected from the local village. The venue is accessible for a wheelchair and sessions can be adapted to meet individual needs including bringing an assistance dog if needed as well as bringing a pony to a child. There is not an accessible toilet but there are facilities in the nearby village.

The young inspector felt that having a choice of morning and afternoon sessions was important and they felt that it was good value priced at £10 for a 1:1 session.

This session is ideal for children and young people of all ages and abilities. The staff are really good at being able to identify and respond to children’s individual needs in a way that allows them to feel included and the one to one sessions offered would be the perfect opportunity to build upon this at their pace.

Safety and surroundings – 3 stars

Clear safety advice was provided at the start of the session including fire safety, keeping safe around the ponies and in the area. The young Inspectors said they felt safe throughout the session with the advice and instructions that were given.

The staff provided a warm welcome and were attentive to the young people and parents throughout the session. They took time to explain things, answered questions and provided choices. The young inspectors felt that the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Feedback from one of the Young Inspectors

A young inspector said “The activity was fun, and I really enjoyed it. I would like to go again.”

Feedback from the provider

The experience of being inspected by the young inspectors was a very positive one – Thank you. If in the future anyone needs direction to find us we always suggest people ‘call us beforehand so we can direct them in. Thank you for the above report and comments – we do try to be all inclusive hence why the one to one sessions work best rather than doing a group activity. It was a pleasure to have you all and if anyone wants to do more with us feel free to give us a ‘call to discuss options. Kind regards Giles Boddington and Jo Boddington
