Report Summary
Fun and enjoyment – 3 stars
A separate session was provided for the young inspectors to attend as a group. 5 of them said that really enjoyed the session and said that it was a lot of fun.
One of the young inspectors who had previously attended with his school felt overwhelmed in this session. He stayed to watch the others for a while and then left but did say that the session looked fun.
The other young inspectors were supported by the staff to practice their skills and technique on the skateboards. They were all working at different levels of skill and confidence and the staff were able to tailor the session to meets the individual needs of them all.
They were encouraged to progress in their skating ability, try new moves and build their confidence. The qualified instructors moved around between them ensuring that they all had one to one time with an instructor, and they all said that the staff were friendly and helpful.
They all said that they would all attend this session again and would recommend it to everyone to come and try.
Safety – 2 stars
There was no safety advice or briefing provided prior to the session and this may have contributed to the young inspector who was overwhelmed and unable to participate. The other inspectors who had all attended before at different times all said that they felt safe during the session and were given appropriate safety advice to keep safe as they skated.
The staff were on hand to ensure that everyone was safe as they used the equipment and ensuring a safe distance was kept between them and that they felt comfortable approaching them for assistance.
There is a secure area for parents to watch the session and for them to get the protective equipment.
Accessibility – 3 stars
The venue is wheelchair accessible with a small lip to get over the doorway. The staff were very patient and attentive to the individual needs of the children and young people. The inspectors felt that was a good time to skate on a Sunday and said that at £5 it was very good value for money.
Young Inspector Lead feedback
“It is very safe and the people hold your hand if you don’t know how to skate” “It was a lot of fun”
What a parent said
“I felt that it was very accessible, in terms of them (one has ADHD and both are autistic). I feel it would be accessible to wheelchair users and that the helpers gave them the right amount of assistance and are really good with the young people.”
What the provider said
Thankyou once again to the Young Inspectors for taking the time to visit us.
We are glad that people feel our club is safe and fun. We have used the feedback to remind all coaches to ensure they check in at the start of sessions with attendees and parents/guardians for an introduction/briefing, even if they have attended skate club previously.
Many Thanks
