Registered Providers (RPs) are the key provider of affordable rented homes for Island people.

The Isle of Wight Council has very limited housing stock of its own.

With only approximately 6400 units of RP affordable rented accommodation available Island wide there is consistent pressure on this resource.

People experience lengthy delays in moving to permanent affordable rented accommodation.

220 homeless households are currently supported in temporary accommodation. Demand has doubled over the past 3 years and continues to increase.

Accommodation unit of different sizes are rented directly by the council for this purpose. We are currently using the following:

  • 36 units of 1 bedroom accommodation
  • 89 units of 2-bedroom accommodation
  • 67 units of 3-bedroom accommodation
  • 23 units of 4-bedroom accommodation
  • 3 units of 5-bedroom accommodation
  • 2 units of 6-bedroom accommodation

The accommodation type varies and currently includes bed and breakfast, single units and caravans.

The council is committed to eliminating our use of bed and breakfast accommodation as soon as is possible.
