An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead our SEN Specialist services.  The post is responsible for ensuring that the SEN Assessment and Review team achieve all of their statutory duties in line with legislation, but also to ensure that the service is providing a high level of support to our school leaders.  The post also has The Speech and Language, Specialist Teaching services as well as the Early Years team under its management.

 

The post is based at County Hall in Newport but will require the successful candidate to be able to travel across the island to visit schools and settings as well as hold meetings with parents as required.

 

The successful candidate will need to have a high level of knowledge of the SEND Code of Practice and will need to be able to provide strong leadership to  the services they manage.

This role falls within the strategic partnership between the Isle of Wight Council and Hampshire County Council. The employer will be the Isle of Wight Council and employment is on Isle of Wight terms and conditions. Hampshire County Council has delivered, on behalf of the Isle of Wight Council, all of its children’s services functions and will continue to do so until 2023. The original five-year partnership arrangement under direction of the Secretary of State finished in 2018 but has been extended voluntarily by both local authorities for a further five years.


The management reporting line for this role is ultimately through Hampshire County Council Children’s Services Director/Assistant Director and managers who take operational responsibility for children’s services.
