To receive the MOD’s Gold award, employers must have signed the Armed Forces Covenant and must proactively demonstrate their forces-friendly credentials as part of their recruiting and selection processes as well as helping former military personal by helping career transitions in the recruitment of service leavers and to be supportive of forces families.

In addition, employers must also demonstrate support for Reservist employees and advocate support for defence people issues to partner organisations.

Councillor Peacey-Wilcox said: “I was both proud and honoured to receive the Gold Award on behalf of Isle of Wight Council.

"We have worked hard to show how much we value the contribution of our armed forces and are proud of our employment policies in relation to recruiting former services personal.

"We are also strong advocates for our current forces families and also proud to support our Reservist employees as part of the council family.”

Councillor Peacey-Wilcox also praised the efforts of council employee Jane Tyler “for her dedication and determination” in helping the local authority achieve gold award status.
