Help us help the RSPCA help animals

The Isle of Wight Council and partners Amey are linking up with RSPCA to help animals in need this winter.

The RSPCA is running low on desperately needed blankets and towels for its animals in care.

From 24 November you can donate these items at either Lynnbottom or Afton Marsh household waste and recycling centres (HWRCs), using the new drop-off points installed.

Strategic manager for contracts, waste and environment, Natasha Dix, said: “‘The Isle of Wight Council in Partnership with Amey are pleased to be supporting the RSPCA and animals in need this winter.

“We hope the Island community can get behind this campaign and donate any unwanted blankets and towels to the charity and help us support this great cause.

"It is easy, just bring your old blankets and towels to the recycling centre next time you book a visit and pop them in the donation box with RSPCA on the sign.”

Suzanne Pugh, RSPCA branch manager on the Isle of Wight, added: “Many people will probably have clean blankets or towels they no longer need and it is an excellent idea to be able to donate these to the RSPCA while combining this with a trip to the recycling centres.

“I want to thank the Isle of Wight Council and Amey for the scheme which will help animals in our care especially during the autumn and winter seasons.”

The council is also running a social media campaign to advertise the scheme as well as a focus on animals that are looking for their forever home. Keep an eye out on our facebook page - @isleofwightcouncil and Instagram - @iowcouncil .

The RSPCA currently has more than 60 animals in its care that are looking for new homes. If you think you could offer one of these animals a new home, please visit: https://www.rspca.org.uk/findapet or call the RSPCA on (01983) 840287.

If you use the RSPCA donation points at the HWRCs, we kindly ask that you ensure any blankets and towels being donated are in a clean and good useable condition. Please ensure they are free of rips and unsoiled.

Please note duvets and pillows are unable to be accepted at this time. The household waste and recycling centre still has a booking system in place. To book a slot at the household waste and recycling centre: https://www.iow.gov.uk/hwrcbooking/
