On track for Bike Week 2019

The council is supporting a range of events for Bike Week 2019.

Bike Week, delivered by Cycling UK, runs this year between 8 and 16 June and is an annual celebration to showcase cycling.
We are encouraging workplaces to take part in our 'Pedal Aid Workplace Bikeathon', with prizes for the workplace team with the highest mileage generated from journeys taken with the PedalAid app along the Red Squirrel Trail from the 10 to 14 June.
You can find out more about Pedalaid, the route and download the app at https://www.pedalaid.org/ . If your workplace would like to get involved, please email: Kayleigh.Richter@iow.gov.uk .

There will be a FREE ‘Dr Bike’ Maintenance Session’ taking place on 12 June, between 9am and 3pm, next to the Quay Bridge, Newport. Just take your bike along to get it checked over by Island Bikeworks.

Wight Youth Cycling Club is holding a junior bike ride at Appley Park, Ryde on 11 June, between 5pm and 6pm, supported by the council’s sports development unit.

The council’s social media accounts will also be carrying a range of supportive messages over this week, at twitter: @iwight and facebook: @isleofwightcouncil.

If you do not want to join a cycle event, the public is being encouraged to get involved in the ‘7 days of cycling’ challenge, which is a great opportunity to get out and enjoy a cycle ride for seven times during the month of June to celebrate Bike Week 2019.

There are no rules on what counts as one of your seven – from riding to work, to going to the shops or cycling to school and back.

All you need to do to take part is share your photos and videos of your rides on Instagram or Twitter using the hashtags #7daysofcycling and #BikeWeekUK.
Further information about Bike Week can be found at: https://www.cyclinguk.org/bikeweek/about

The council activities are supported as part of the Access Fund for Sustainable Travel - a £1.3 million three-year sustainable transport programme which was secured competitively from the Department for Transport, now in its final year.
