Council commissions Veolia to support waste services transition
Published: 23 January 2026
The Isle of Wight Council has awarded Veolia, a leading resource management company, a contract to undertake consultancy services for its integrated waste management contract for three months, until 31 March 2026.
Veolia and the Isle of Wight Council are also in active discussions for Veolia to manage the residual waste treatment, household waste and recycling collections and management of household waste recycling centres on the Island for a period of two years.
The council would then tender for a longer-term provider.
The ongoing discussions are part of the council’s commitment to service continuity and ensuring a smooth transition following the exit of the current provider.
Working collaboratively, the priority for all parties is to ensure as little disruption as possible for residents and businesses on the Island.
With 18 integrated waste management contracts with local authorities across the UK, Veolia has decades of experience in providing high quality municipal recycling and waste services, as well as managing the nearby Hampshire integrated waste management contract.
Natasha Dix, the council’s service director for waste, environment and planning said: “Our priority is to ensure continuity of essential waste and recycling services for residents and businesses on the Island.
"By working closely with Veolia during this consultancy period, we are taking proactive steps to maintain high standards and prepare for a smooth transition to a longer-term solution.”
