Island Planning Strategy: Council agrees changes ahead of consultation
Published: 20 November 2025
A series of proposed changes to the Island Planning Strategy were agreed at a meeting of Full Council last night (Wednesday), paving the way for a fresh round of public consultation.
The Island Planning Strategy is the council’s emerging local plan, which will guide how land on the Island is used and developed in the years ahead.
Covering housing, employment, infrastructure and environmental protection, it will shape planning decisions once adopted.
Councillors overwhelmingly approved the changes, which respond to concerns raised by Planning Inspectors earlier this year.
Residents will have their chance to comment when a six-week consultation opens on Monday 1 December, running until Monday 12 January 2026.
Consultation material will be available online and at public libraries, County Hall and Seaclose Offices. Each proposed change will have its own response form, and a guide and FAQs will help residents navigate the process.
For those keen to get an early look, the full report presented to councillors is already online..
Once the consultation begins, feedback can be submitted via an easy-to-use online form or by email or post to Planning Services.
All feedback will be sent to the Planning Inspectors, who will re-open the formal examination of the strategy to consider both the proposed changes and the public’s views.
