Families and friends gathered at the Isle of Wight Crematorium chapel for a moving Lights of Love service, held to remember loved ones at what can be a difficult time of year.
Organised by the Isle of Wight Council’s bereavement team, the service began at 6.30pm and featured the gentle glow of candles lit in memory of those no longer with us.
The chapel was filled with warmth and reflection as attendees shared a moment of peace and remembrance together. The service was conducted by celebrants Shirley Winn and Jonathan Skeet, along with Reverend Stephen Sutcliffe.
After the ceremony, guests enjoyed hot drinks and a tempting selection of cakes, with conversations flowing as people connected over shared experiences.
All proceeds from the event will go to Mountbatten Hospice, helping to support Island families through challenging times.
Councillor Ian Dore, chairman of the Isle of Wight Council, attended the service and said: “It was a truly heartfelt occasion and a privilege to say a few words.
"I’ve found myself at services quite a few times over the last couple of years and I cannot emphasise enough how appreciated the bereavement team are.
"Seeing our community come together to honour loved ones shows the strength and compassion that defines the Island. These lights remind us that even in the darkest moments, love shines through.”
The bereavement team expressed their gratitude to everyone who attended and contributed, making the evening both poignant and uplifting.
