Step back in time with Regency dance at Lord Louis Library
Published: 30 September 2025
The Isle of Wight Library Service’s year-long celebration of Jane Austen’s 250th birthday continues this November with a delightful event that promises to whisk attendees back to the elegance of the Regency era.
On Sunday 23 November, Lord Louis Library in Newport will host a special Regency dance workshop and demonstration led by the Hampshire Regency Dancers, a Winchester-based group dedicated to preserving and enjoying the dances of the late Georgian and Regency periods.
Running from 1pm to 3pm, the workshop is open to adults of all ages and abilities, and no previous dance experience — or partner — is required.
The Hampshire Regency Dancers are known for their friendly and inclusive approach, walking participants through each dance before adding music and a touch of period flair.
Louise Emery, development librarian, said: “Whether you're a lifelong Austen fan or simply curious to try something new, this Regency dance afternoon promises a charming and memorable experience.
"We’re thrilled to welcome the Hampshire Regency Dancers to Lord Louis Library and hope the community will join us for what’s sure to be a delightful celebration.”
Tickets are just £5 each (cash only) and are available directly from Lord Louis Library. With interest expected to be high, early booking is advised. To reserve your place, call 823823 and pop in to pay and collect your ticket.
This event is part of a wider programme of activities offered by the Isle of Wight Council's Library Service, aimed at engaging the Island’s diverse community.
