Island residents are being encouraged to make their voices heard on proposals for a new section of the King Charles III England Coast Path, with the public consultation set to close at midnight on Wednesday, 22 October.

The plans, published by Natural England, focus on the stretch of coastline between East Cowes and Wootton Bridge — known as IOW 1 — and form part of a wider national initiative to create a continuous walking route around the entire English coast.

Councillor Julie Jones-Evans, who chairs the Isle of Wight Council’s economy, regeneration, transport and infrastructure committee, has called on residents to get involved.

“This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to influence how our coastline is opened up to the public,” she said. “If you care about access, the environment, or how our Island is experienced by future generations, now is the time to speak up.”

The King Charles III England Coast Path is one of the most ambitious public access projects ever undertaken in the country. Once completed, Natural England say it will span more than 2,700 miles, connecting communities, supporting tourism, and promoting healthy outdoor lifestyles.

The section currently under consultation includes detailed proposals on access points, land use, and environmental protections. Natural England is inviting feedback from residents, landowners, walkers, and anyone with an interest in the Island’s coastline.

Please note that all comments must be submitted directly to Natural England. The Isle of Wight Council is not able to accept representations.
