Attendance at School
Also known as: Absences, Fixed Penalty Notices (Education), Parent Prosecution, School Attendance, Truancy
Service Description: The Law states that parents of a child of compulsory school age must ensure that he/she receives full-time education and if a child fails to attend punctually and regularly then his/her parents are guilty of an offence.
A Truancy Penalty Notice (also known as Fixed Penalty Notice) can be issued to each parent by the Education and Inclusion Service on behalf of the Local Authority where there is an unauthorised absence from school.
Once a Truancy Penalty Notice has been issued, parents will have the opportunity to pay the reduced payment of £60 within 21 days or £120 within 28 days.
