Please book online to register a birth. All appointments will be subject to hand hygiene procedures and we ask customers to continue to wear a mask as a courtesy to staff and others.

HMRC are currently urging all new parents to make sure they are fully registered for Child Benefit.

Marriage or civil partnership ceremonies and notices of marriage

Please call us to book your marriage or civil partnership - there is no facility to attend at Seaclose Offices to make a booking. Please call 01983 823233 option one

The number of guests who will be able to attend a wedding or civil partnership in the St Catherine's Room has returned to 12 maximum - this includes witnesses, all children of any age and photographers. Staff will continue to wear face coverings and, as a courtesy to staff and others, we ask that guests wear face coverings.

Hand hygiene measures remain in place.

Notice of marriage appointments will not be available for ceremonies scheduled more than six months ahead. All appointments will be subject to hand hygiene procedures and we ask customers to continue to wear a mask as a courtesy to staff and others.


Registrars continue to register deaths by telephone. Please register by calling 01983 823233 option one.

Copy Certificates

Copy certificate requests have resumed. Orders must be placed using our online forms. No orders will be taken over the phone and priority will be given to events registered in 2020/21. Events registered earlier than 2020 will be subject to a ten day turnaround time. All certificates will be posted, there is no facility to collect in person.


The Isle of Wight Register Office is situated at Seaclose Offices, Fairlee Road, Newport. The Registration Service is responsible for the registration of births, deaths,  marriages  and civil partnerships occurring on the Island. We also license venues where civil ceremonies may be solemnised and conducting civil  ceremonies.

The Register Office holds all the Isle of Wight birth, death and marriage registers dating from 1 July 1837 to the present day. In addition all Isle of Wight civil partnership records from 2005 onwards are held. It is possible to request a copy certificate from any archived register.
