Afton Marsh HWRC
Afton Marsh Household Waste Recycling Centre (HWRC)
The Authority and Amey have in partnership jointly agreed that the instruction from government requires the temporary closure of the following for review in 3 weeks’ time, effective immediately :
- Afton March HWRC to the Public
- The household lane at Lynnbottom HWRC
Remaining open to support business and for emergencies will be:
- The Commercial Lane at Lynnbottom
- Asbestos disposal
- Hazardous Waste store for emergency services

- Saturday, Sunday and Monday (including bank holidays): 10am to 6pm
Please note: this site will not be open on Christmas Day.
Vehicle Permit Scheme
Some vehicles require a permit for residents to deposit their own household waste at both Lynnbottom Household waste Recycling Centre and Afton Marsh Recycling Centre. Further details on the Vehicle Permit Scheme can be found by clicking here
Vehicles with a combined length of 7.7m or less are permitted to use the facility as normal regardless of the length of trailer. Any vehicle and trailer combination over 7.7m are unable to use the site. Vehicle and trailer combinations less than 7.7.m can continue to use Lynnbottom as normal.
Vehicles and trailer combinations under 5m in length can park as normal in one of Lynnbottom’s marked parking bays (unless the user has mobility issues/blue badge in which case they will be directed to the accessible bay). Vehicles and trailer combinations over this length will be required to use the accessible bay.
The rules are part of moves to improve health and safety, reduce waiting times at Lynnbottom and reduce congestion on Briddlesford Road, Newport, during busy times.
This site has facilities for recycling:
- Glass bottles and jars
- Fridges and freezers
- Vehicle batteries
- Garden waste
- Cardboard and paper
- Used engine oil
- Gas bottles
- Mobile phones
- Furniture and other items for re-use.
