School Admissions

Starting School - Primary 2020

National Offer Day Thursday 16 April 2020
Additional Information for Parents

If you applied online you will receive an email informing you of the primary school allocated to your child to start Reception class in September 2020.  If you 'opted' out of receiving information from the Isle of Wight Council, you will not receive this email, but you can log in to your online account  and this will enable you to view the school allocated.

The School Admissions team will not be able to inform you of the school allocated to your child on the telephone, this is because we are unable to confirm the identity of the caller.

All primary schools have been provided with the home address and email address that you created your online account with or provided us with on your application.  If you did not provide an email address the school has been provided with your contact number.  If you have changed any of these since making your application, please email the primary school to inform them of your updated contact details.

Gatten and Lake Primary School -

A huge welcome from everyone at Gatten and Lake Primary School. Thank you for choosing Gatten and Lake as the school to educate your child in their Primary years.

We find ourselves writing this in unprecedented times, when we are usually planning our transition days, ensuring all information is ready to be sent out and stay and play sessions are adequately planned for children and parents alike. Rest assured this is still within our plans, but unfortunately due to COVID-19 we can’t offer any dates as yet but as soon as we can, we will let you know. These maybe in the summer term, during the summer break, or in the Autumn term.

You will however be hearing from us very, very soon – keep an eye on your letter boxes! Following this we will be sending further information over the coming half term. Alongside this, we will have set up a new tab on the school website ( . This is called ‘Transition 2020’, which will be under the dropdown menu tab named ‘About our school’. We will post all updates into this tab and copy all communications that we send out, this will act as a good reference point.

Please can we ask that you send an email to the admin email address: confirming your child’s place so we have the most up to date email address for you as a way of communication too and include within this, your mobile telephone number. If you have changed address since your application was made to the admissions team, an updated address would prove to be extremely beneficial.

We are delighted to welcome you to Gatten and Lake and look forward to welcoming you to the school as soon as possible. The school remains open during this time and contact can be made by telephone on 869910 or in an emergency 07399 815187.

Please send this information to: so we will be able to contact you with further updates about our transition process. Haylands Primary School -

Dear Parents and Carers

We are looking forward to welcoming your child and family to Haylands Primary school. We understand that recent times have made things quite different to normal life, however we are hoping that we can prepare for September 2020  and manage transition well over this time of school closure.

First of all it would be useful for you to confirm with the school office or 01983 563372 as to whether you are going to take up your school place here. Following this we can regularly send you email updates on school life and put you in direct contact with the teaching staff for September 2020. If you provide us with your email address we will be able to set up Tapestry as a communication tool and we will add regular updates for you via our Facebook Page.

We are very much hoping that when some degree of social distancing is lifted we can invite you into school to meet us face to face, in small groups or as an individual. Equally, if social distancing relaxes we would love to come and meet you at home.
We recognise starting school can be challenging if your child is still 3 and not 4 until they are almost ready to start school. Equally, if you are concerned about your child’s development or your child has SEND you may have other worries you would like to discuss.
Specific concerns regarding SEND can be directed to our Inclusion Coordinator, Mrs Julie Leftley  or any queries regarding delayed start/ part time options to the Assistant Headteacher responsible for EYFS/KS1, Mrs Melanie Gartell

I very much hope to see you all soon
