Review of Premises Licences

Request a Review of a Premises Licence

At any time following the grant of a licence, you or a responsible authority may make an application to the Licensing Authority for the review of a premises licence or club premises certificate.

This could be because of a matter arising at the premises relating to any of the four licensing objectives:

  • the prevention of crime and disorder
  • public safety
  • the protection of children from harm
  • the prevention of public nuisance.

The application must relate to particular premises for which a licence or certificate is in force. It must also be relevant to the promotion of the licensing objectives.

For example: If a licensed venue is causing problems, like selling alcohol irresponsibly you can ask the Council to review its licence.

Who can apply

You can apply if you are:

  • a member of the public
  • a business or organisation
  • a responsible authority (e.g. police, fire service)

How to request a review of a Premises Licence

  1. Download the Premises Licence Review Application form (PDF, 75KB)
  2. Fill in all sections of the form, you must submit a fully completed review to the Licensing Authority
  3. email it to: licensing@iow.gov.uk

When the application is served to the Licensing Authority (us), you must also send copies to:

  • all responsible authorities (e.g. police, fire service)
  • the licence or certificate holder

What Happens Next

As the Licensing Authority we will decide whether the application is ‘relevant’, meaning it relates to one or more of the licensing objectives and is a valid request.

If relevant, notices will be displayed on or near the premises, at our offices and on our website.
