Be advised that schools can take up to five development days closures during an academic year which may alter the start/end date of any school term. The expectation is that 1 September will be an island-wide staff development day and children will not attend. However some schools have the freedom to set their own term and holiday dates so parents and carers must check with their child’s school to understand if their child is expected to attend on 1 September 2023.

School development day closures

Maintained schools are entitled to take five days each year when they work in school without the children present. These days are for staff training and are important for the development of teaching methods. These are sometimes known as 'INSET' (In Service Educational Training) days but we refer to them as 'development days'. We will publish a list of closures as they are notified to us by the school.

2022 to 2023

For the 2022 to 2023 academic year, schools are entitled to five development days.

It is the responsibility of each individual school to notify parents and guardians of their development day closures and to those supplying meals and transport. Academies are not required to notify us of development days, though we will publish the information where known. If you have any queries regarding the school closure dates shown, contact your child's school and college directly for clarification in the first instance.
