Apply to protect a tree

If you want to apply to have a tree or trees protected you will need to request a Tree Preservation Order (TPO).

For a TPO to be successful the trees need to meet certain criteria. They need to be good quality and in good condition. They should also be of visual importance from public areas.

A TPO cannot be solely used to block development. It is also a legal document and must be correctly prepared, so can take some time.

Trees already owned by us are not normally considered for protection and trees owned by the Crown cannot be protected unless they give their approval.
