A fantastic opportunity has arisen in Trading Standards to join the team as a Trainee Trading Standards Inspector. The work that Trading Standards carries out is varied and interesting with no two days ever the same.
You could be assisting a resident who has been subjected to a doorstep cold caller, investigating a complaint about counterfeit goods, carrying out visits in connection with age restricted products, dealing with unsafe products through to inspecting farms for compliance with animal health & welfare legislation.
Embarking on a new career in Trading Standards, you will have the opportunity to work across all areas of the Service whilst starting your formal qualification through the Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI). In addition to your studies, you will be expected to have a case load of dealing with certain Trading Standards matters whilst receiving support from fellow colleagues in the team and assisting them with their duties to gain experience.
To succeed in this position, you will need to be an enthusiastic and self-motivated team player committed to delivering advice, inspections and enforcement to a high standard. This will be as directed whilst you are training through local, regional and national initiatives based on complaints and intelligence available to us. Effective communication skills with the ability to build rapport and relationships will be essential to talk with a wide range of consumers and businesses.
Although all training will be provided, previous transferrable skills that you can bring to Trading Standards would be advantageous.
We operate flexible working arrangements where agile working is encouraged and supported which includes some working from home. A full driving licence and use of a car is essential.
For further information or an informal discussion please contact James Potter, Trading Standards Manager on: 01983 823000.
