Isle of Wight Building Control is offering a unique opportunity for someone with a construction background to join its team and train to be a Building Control Surveyor. The role offers a mix of on-site and office-based work to help people understand and comply with their legal and technical responsibilities for all aspects of the construction process from design to final completion.

The Council is also innovative, forward thinking, and dynamic and we are looking for someone to share those values and make a difference. We are fully committed to training and developing our staff and you will benefit from mentor support from colleagues and a structured training programme.

You’ll learn about structural design, fire precautions, drainage, flood management, sustainability, reducing heat loss and energy consumption, acoustics, heating and ventilation, accessible design, and security.

You’ll ideally be educated to A-level standard, with Maths and English to Grade C at GCSE level (new Grade 4). We also welcome surveyors who have had previous careers as builders, designers, or fire experts. Routes to professional qualification can start with an HNC in construction or a degree in surveying or construction.

We offer a fully flexible working arrangement including the technology to work from home, iPads for use on site and a pool car for site visits.

A valid driving licence is essential, and you will eventually be part of the teams out of hours rota for dangerous structures (additional payment provided).
