Home to School Transport Project Officer

 

The home to school transport service provides transport each day for 1500 children and young adults. They travel on approximately 90 contracted routes as well as some traveling on public service routes. The cost per year is currently £3.8m.

 

The HTSTPO will help manage the response to increased demand, will help to proactively manage costs  and so ensure previous savings are not put at risk as well as adapting transport to ensure that savings targets for the service are met.

 

Some of the tasks required of the postholder are detailed below.

 

• Support the PCO in responding to the day to day changes in transport provision especially where new requirements are required.

 

• Improve quality of recording and reporting on Transport Management Information from Capita One.

 

• To develop an Isle of Wight minibus schemes between the Isle of Wight council and schools or colleges. The scheme will allow an organisation to provide transport for their eligible students, using its own vehicles and staff. Costs at the organisation will be met through the savings on contracted transport. 

 

The postholder will report to the Head of Service but work within the Home to School Transport team.

his role falls within the strategic partnership between the Isle of Wight Council and Hampshire County Council. The employer will be the Isle of Wight Council and employment is on Isle of Wight terms and conditions. Hampshire County Council has delivered, on behalf of the Isle of Wight Council, all of its children’s services functions and will continue to do so until 2023. The original five-year partnership arrangement under direction of the Secretary of State finished in 2018 but has been extended voluntarily by both local authorities for a further five years.

The management reporting line for this role is ultimately through Hampshire County Council Children’s Services Director/Assistant Director and managers who take operational responsibility for children’s services.
